Martins first made this announcement on his twitter handle, @oba_martins saying the move is a big step to take in his career but insists that he is ready for the big challenge.
The Nigerian international tweeted, 'I look forward to this new era in my career…I also look forward to meet my new teammates and the Sounders FC fans, my new family'. The striker also thanked his fans for their support, 'I like to thank Levante UD for giving me a great opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world'
Reports say that Martins actually paid the buyout clause in his contract with Levante from his pocket to facilitate his move to his new club in a speedy manner.
'Obafemi Martins has deposited this afternoon at the headquarters of the Spanish Professional League (LFP) the fee (an estimated $3.9 million, pound sterling2.6 million) which corresponds to the buyout clause in his contract with Levante,' said a statement on the club's website.
The 28 year old has played in Italy with Inter Milan and in the English premier league with Newcastle United and Birmingham City. He also played for Germany Bundesliga side, Wolfsburg and Rubin Kazan based in Russia.
Sounders are playing in the Concacaf Champions League and will be hoping that the Nigerian striker will be able to help them to a successful campaign.
